By connecting to the real world of students’ lives, authentic learning enables students to become lifelong learners who contribute to society and the wider world as active and discerning citizens. Authentic learning is central to our work as Catholic educators because it promotes the continual growth and wellbeing of the whole person — spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically.

At Clancy Catholic College, we seek excellence in all that we do, while nurturing  a love of learning. Our attitude to learning can be summed up in the phrase: ‘High expectations, high support, high accountability’.

This is explained in the following way:

  • High expectations – Students reach their full potential when challenged by parents and teachers, and when they challenge themselves.
  • High support – Every learner is different and needs support at some stage. At Clancy Catholic College, learning is pitched at the appropriate level for each student and support is provided when needed.
  • High accountability – Staff and students are accountable to themselves and to each other. Both are expected to seek excellence in all that they do. A major component of success is hard work, hence the popular phrase at Clancy: ‘Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.’

Through this approach to learning we aim to foster the growth of each individual in order to fulfil their potential and thus inspire meaningful engagement with an ever changing world.

“The ‘Clancy Way’ specifies that every student should be given every opportunity through high standards and high support to reach their personal best.”
